QUOTE: - Could anyone from doctors community reply to the following query please. Thnx

No doubt, the doctor who has seen the patient and advised arthroscopy knows the best and for us here (in this forum) a lot of information, which is lacking, is required before coming to the decision of arthroscopy.

One thing that I would like to add to the advice of Mr. waseem, the patient must get arthroscopy done only from that centre which has both the diagnostic as well as the therapeutic facilities at the one and the same sitting NOT one sitting for the diagnosis and the other one for the treatment at the same or two different centres. It saves the time, minimises the risk of complications and is more cost effective.

In addition, regarding arthroscopy see also the following links:

http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/brochure/thr_report.cfm?Thread_ID=33&topcategory=About%20Orthopaedics&searentry=arthroscopy

http://www.umm.edu/ency/article/002972.htm

GENERAL ADVICE (regardless of diagnosis of the knee condition)

1. According to the advice of the orthopaedic surgeon and the physiotherapist who have seen you, physiotherapy is mainstay of the treatment to increase the range of movement or decrease the risk of stiffness of the joint.

2. Avoid habituation of painkillers, as it is not unusual in such conditions. Chronic use of painkillers has much potential of side effects especially to the stomach and kidney. Moreover some painkillers are notorious for addiction and dependence.

3. Avoid local massages but local painkiller creams may be used gently after advice of the doctor who has seen you.

4. You can offer your prayers in any comfortable position on the mat, chair, cot or bed etc.

5. Use of commodes makes the need easy.

I hope it will help!

Wassalam!

A reasonable number of women come to us re: Endometriosis. As it is known to be a life time condition we suggest they join Endometriosis Society for to stay in touch with other patients in the same situation as well as updates on treatment and relief from symptoms.

aray bhai loveall sahib. bacchi ney vigorous exercise during periods key barey mein poocha hey aur aap ney SIC per lecture jharna shuroo ker diya. (lubzz has asked abt vigorous exercise during periods and you hv started a lecture abt SIC during periods) plz give advice in context.
lubzz its better to avoid vigorous exercices these days and even otherwise there should be some difference between male and female exercices anyway. we see cases of women later in life coming with history of fractured pelvis and back injuries during vigorous exercises and also from hiking, bunjee jumping etc which cause decisions about mode of delivery difficult and often end up with caesarean sections which is many times more high risk vs normal delivery.

best wishes for your medical studies.

Could you please enlighten us further about any relationship between LATER IN LIFE, VIGOROUS EXERCISES and the Periods?

Please pray for one of our friends and colleagues suffering from a malignant tumour, terminal illness and preparing things for her death, for her very young children and her beloved husband, parents and others. May Allah grant her more strength of faith and loads of patience; making things easy for herself and family.
Indeed such are reminders for all of us to utilize our time, energy and resources for the best of the Causes.

Asalam Aalaikum,

You all must have heard about the serious virus that is spreading from mosquito and in the North America it is called "Westline virus" .
It is a very dangerous virus and the mosquito as far as I have heard bites early morning during fajr and during maghrib and it this mosquito is taking birth in clean water unlike other mosquitos.

I wanted to get detailed info about this dangerous virus, can the doctors of Studying-Islam.org provide detailed info about this new virus especially about its symptoms?

Regards,
waseem

Brother, I presume you mean west nile virus. As it is not seen in UK. I have no personel experience. Taken from their web site. I hope this answers your query.

The West Nile Virus is spreading faster than federal health officials had expected, with the number of cases tripling to at least 164 since last week.

In the latest warning about the rapid advance of the mosquito-borne disease, Dr. Julie Gerberding, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Thursday that this year's tally will likely break last year's record.

State health officials report seven people--all of them elderly _ have died from the virus. Four of the deaths were reported in Colorado, the hardest-hit state.

Health officials had expected the disease to spread this year to all corners of the country, invading Western states previously unscathed. But they appeared somewhat surprised at its speed.

Nationwide, the CDC said at least 164 people in 16 states are infected, compared with 59 a week ago.

West Nile virus rarely kills, and in fact most infected people show no symptoms and thus go uncounted in the tally of cases, experts say. But about 1 in 150 people who get the virus will develop its potentially deadly encephalitis or meningitis. Most often, it affects the elderly. Of its seven victims this year, the youngest was 68.

Some experts blame the outbreak on a wet June and very hot July, which they say provided the perfect summer for mosquitoes.

The CDC is urging people in the 16 states where the virus has appeared to use mosquito repellent, cover arms and legs with clothing and avoid early morning and evening hours when mosquitoes are most active.

Those states are Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota and Texas.

Since West Nile first entered this country through New York in 1999, health officials have tried everything--mosquito spraying and other control efforts, prevention messages and disease detection systems.

But there's no way to prevent the virus from spreading and there's no way to predict which areas it will strike hardest, said Dr. Sue Montgomery of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

``It's like a viral hurricane.''

Most people who are infected with the virus won't get sick. The CDC says about a fifth of those will develop a fever, headache, body aches and sometimes a rash and swollen lymph glands.

Symptoms for West Nile encephalitis or meningitis include headache, high fever, neck stiffness, disorientation and sometimes paralysis.

Diabetes Mellitus is a condition that entails that yhe pancreas does not function properly and either produces reduced amount of insulin or none at all.

The symptoms that patients present with our weight loss, excessive thirst, passing a lot of urine, feeling tired and feeling hungry all the time. They also complain of urine having a fruity smell.

There are two main types of Diabetes, Insulin dependent and tablet controlled.

Diet plays a very significant role and must be used in addition to treatment. You need to go on the internet or get in touch with a dietician or doctor to get a diet sheet for diabetes.

These days there are a whole lot of diabetic foods available and you need to try and explore the availability of diabetic foods.

Tablet controlled diabetes involves use of tablets and those who are insulin depandant require injections.

Another important aspect of treatment is checking blood sugars using glucometers. they help in knowing how good the control is and also in helping to adjust the medication.

It is also important to know that occasionally the blood sugars goes very high or low. One must know about the symptoms and must have emergency supply of glucose tablets at hand that can be administered if blood sugars are very low.

If a diabetic patient becomes suddenly unwell, always check blood sugars, it is likely that blood sugar is very high or low.

Patients with diabetics must have regular eye checks, they must look after their hands and feet with great care and also require regular blood tests for monitoring kidney functions.

I would strongly reccommend that you see a local doctor with interest in diabetes and take more specific advice.

I hope this helps. If you have any specific questions then please write back
kind regards
