Gender Choice Techniques
Question asked by Rabia Naeem.
Posted on: Thursday, October 16, 2008 - Hits: 675
Question:
There is a lot of hype about gender choice before conception. Several techniques and treatments are practiced in various countries. Are they ethically and religiously acceptable for Muslims?
Answer:
Gender Choice Techniques are far from being accurate these days. However, if at some point in future they do become accurate, they could actually upset the balance between males and females if any one is allowed to exercise them. However, in certain situations they can be helpful also. For example, at times, a family has two or three girls and merely to have a boy they keep on planning a baby and still get more girls. Similarly, at times, such a choice can avoid divorces also because divorces are given many a time because of a lack of presence of a certain gender in the family.
Personally, I would tend to delegate this option to be exercised after approval by a court of law which could allow it in certain situations (like the ones pointed above).
