Women leading the Prayer
Question asked by Suleiman Hassan.
Posted on: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - Hits: 720
Question:
Why are women not allowed to lead the prayer?
Answer:
Islam has not interfered in the leadership of religious rites. These rites were always led by men. Therefore, it only upheld this practice. It would not be correct to say that Islam has prohibited women from leading the prayer. It has left this issue to the social structure of a society.
It may also be kept in consideration that the sharī’ah binds the rulers of a Muslim state to lead the Friday and the Eid prayer and to give their sermons. If a woman is elected as head of state of Muslim country, she will have to discharge this responsibility because this is what the ruling of Islam is for a Muslim head of state.
