Celibacy for Genuine Reasons
Question asked by Bon Frank.
Posted on: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - Hits: 550
Question:
If a person for a genuine reason cannot marry (or takes a responsible decision not to marry, for that matter), how should he or she deal with his or her sexual desires. Should they be ignored as non existent or can there be forms to give this shape and place in life?
Answer:
If a person has some genuine reason not to marry or is not left with a choice but to remain celibate, he can only use self-gratifying means to satisfy his sexual desires.
It may be stated here that masturbation is not a sin as is generally considered. For details, see:

However, indulging in activities which lead to masturbation, eg, reading, listening to or watching pornography or fantasizing must be refrained from. According to the Qur’an they are sins. They contaminate our soul and soil its purity. Purification of the soul is the supreme objective of Islam and must not be compromised in any way.
