Islam and Contraception
Question asked by Zarmina Kundi.
Posted on: Tuesday, July 31, 2007 - Hits: 746
Question:
Some forms of contraception are permissible where as some are not in Islam. The most common method is of the contraceptive pill. But now researchers have found out that the pill causes tumors to be formed in the uterus in the later years (after 40 yrs of age). The safe way of contraception is tubecotomy after the parents' intended final child; in which the tubes are tied without any harmful side effects and further medication. I would like to know if tubecotomy is allowed in Islam?
Answer:
Thanks for writing to us. We believe that Islam does not prohibit contraceptive measures considering social or medical problems. We can adopt any of the methods which are efficient and also not detrimental for health. The matter pertains to ijtihaad and people are free to choose in this matter.
