As far as the issue under discussion is concerned, I wrote quote: Aren't knowledge and communication skills the basic qualities expected from any teacher?
I believe StudyingIslamUK suggested knowledge and communication skills as criteria for Imam selection not from the perspective of leading prayers rather from the perspective of the way they influence others. People listen to their sermons, consider them more learned about Islam, come to them with queries about Islam etc. In all this scenario, doesn't your common sense tell you that knowledge and good communications skills are very much desirable in Imams? |

I disagree with you.
Every Muslim is entitled to be the Imam. Allah SWT likes the people who have piety. |

Your common sense is not a criteria! If you are not wrong bring a single verse of Qura'n or the hadith. |

stop fighting and send in your votes to get imams of better standards. this is critical if muslim ummah needs saving-everywhere in the world
27th November 2007
Press Release MCB- Muslim Council of Britain(of which Renaissance Readers Club UK and Understanding Islam UK are registered members)
Mosques and Imams National Advisory Body
The Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board (MINAB), an organisation founded by an alliance of leading Muslim organisations on 29th November 2007 will launch a wide-ranging consultation process with key stakeholders across the country on its proposed Constitution.
“This will be a historic day for the Muslim communities in the UK as it not only marks the beginning of public consultation on the proposed constitution but is also the start of consultations on the first ever draft standards for spreading good practice in the governance in mosques, educational institutions and centres for training of Imams and religious scholars”, said the spokesperson for the steering group of MINAB.
MINAB is a wholly independent community led initiative. It came into existence because of the pressing need recognised by the Muslim community to develop places of worship and learning also as centres of excellence of good governance and community cohesion, involving all sections of the community especially women and youth. |

How you define a Imam? After deciding this first then we can only proceed further.
Regardless of the definition anyone who is pious can never harm everywhere in the world.
