‘Sure it
is beautiful but I must leave now; must reach home asap.’ I checked the time on
the cell phone along with a message from my children ’mummy-hoping to see you
soon’; and said goodbye to the group of doctors who got together on the last day
of the medical conference in a beautiful spot of Scotland. It is indeed a land
of beautiful plains and valleys-the pink, blue and violet combination of colours
over the horizon against the unsullied green of the meadows just appeals to stay
there forever…reminds me of the valley of Ziarat in the west of Pakistan-an un
mathchable beauty..
Under normal circumstances whenever we leave home for any destination, far or
near-we plan to return to home. Our hearts remain entangled with our home. The
comfort and peace of home keeps reminding us of itself and as soon as the reason
to stay out of home ceases, we prepare to return-home sweet home.
A believer believes that as a human being on this earth, he/she has come from
his eternal home to a fleeting and transitory home. As I heard a clause from the
previous revelations during one of the funeral ceremony of my son’s teacher’s
mother a few months back –‘I am not leaving home-am hereby returning to home’; A
famous saying of the last prophet Muhammad pbuh quotes similar that live in this
world as a passer by.
However because the Hereafter remains hidden from our physical sight whilst
indulged in the hustle and bustle of this scintillating world; over the years we
start feeling that this is our abode and we ought to subsist here forever.
Conclusively our life style changes, our centre of concentration becomes
everything which could give us ‘more and more’(alha’kumuttaka’sur) of the
material from this substance world. Our hard work remains for the better
standards in this momentary domicile-the good deeds which apparently give us no
material and visible reward become irrelevant in our day to day schedules. For
every effort we make we look for the visibly possible worldly gain. Because the
next world remains faded in the background-so does the love and care for our
fellows-even what we give to our dearest ones is nothing more than the temporary
treasures which we feel precious for ourselves.
Hence our world becomes nothing but a view of a computerized and robotic,
selfish land-where everyone keeps in preference his own comfort and right-
mutual harmony and sacrifice become a virtue invisible.
Let us remember our ‘Home Sweet Home’ and let us prepare for it as we can see it
stood before our eyes- glowing in the days and glittering in the nights! All the
previous divine revelations have reminded of this home and the last revelation
Qur’an strikes a chord about this and recommends to dash for this reward and
this world which is magnificent in its span-in time and space…
