Insurance?

I know that life insurance is haram, but what about everyday insurance like car insurance, insurance on items like cookers and t.v's and all other big items? Anyone know what the Islamic rulings are?

Obviously, there is no direct reference in the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah about insurance. The matter should be decided in the light of the spirit of Islamic directives and our innate guidance regarding good and bad.

Hence, the question is: Does life insurance and other types of insurance go against the spirit of other evident Islamic directives and our innate guidance? Is there anything wrong with insurance in the perspective of morality?
