QUOTE: The verse 4:59 says 'Obey God and the Prophet and those of you who are in authority' Keeping in veiw the directive of this verse, can a Muslim citizen revolt against an Islamic state?
The initial part of the Quranic verse is same as that of the verse 4: 43 - “Do not go near the prayer”. The complete translation of the verse 4: 59 is as follows:
O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Apostle and those in authority from among you; THEN IF YOU DISAGREE ABOUT ANYTHING, REFER IT TO ALLAH AND THE APOSTLE, if you believe in Allah and the last day; this is better and very good in the end (4: 59).
The verse is not to support everyone in authority most of whom are not able even to touch Holy Quran (56: 79) and they assert to be standing in the line with God and his Prophet (sws)?
It is a separate issue; we have no courage to revolt.
By the way! have someone the right to disobey the Saudi Govt for banning a woman, on the basis of a clear Hadith, to enter Mecca and Madina? |

It seems that I read that Mulsim citizens may revolt, in the majority, against their Muslim government if the leadership is shown to have forsaken the observance of prayer. I think this is correct, or at least one of the acceptable terms. I may be incorrect, though. Shukran, Salam11 |

A/a Very right Mr. Siddiq "No Muslim citizen has been given the permission to revolt against the government unless he has the backing of a clear majority behind him." First point how to determine the majority.I think free & fair Election is better way to determine the majority. Second who would comprise the majority. This is somewhat which can be debated.
There is no question that Muslim should revolt against the Islamic State. He can revolt only in case he doesn't believe Islamic ideology. He should show maturity, patience and trust in state. However he should have freedom to express his displeasure to the policies of Government. I think If Muslim doesn't agree with the policies of Government( ofcourse Majority) they should have right to replace that Government.
This is what democracy all about. We can adapt it and evolve as per our values.
