Salam
My husband is a trader and he trades spare parts of various machinert. now there is a certain %age of his stock which is a dead stock for him. whihc he is quite sure that he will never be able to sell. but as value (purchase value), it is quit high. now is he supposed to pay zakat on that too?
well, your husband need to pay 2.5% of the total stock on his day of Zakat (1st Ramadan/Jan. etc.) according to the Islamic Law in case his dead stock is expected to be sold in near futur though very slowly. But if his dead stock is of type that is not expected to be sold in near future then it may be left aside especially if it's in a huge quantity. Nevertheless it shud be in his mind that if he'll pay zakat on it despite being a dead stock, he'll earn a great reward from the God. Regards
