WHAT IS HARD IN THE HEART
Bringing peace?Saving life? Torturing? Killing?
Why does a person become ruthless or hard hearted? When does it happen that one turns into an unbending/rigid human being, although was born so soft and cuddly?
It doesn't happen in one day. Most of the times the story begins from childhood.
General environment, home/school/society/media. In a society where general attitude is "I don't care"It becomes very easy for one to become so busy in his/her own schedules that he has time for none; when he is strong enough and does not need parents anymore, he would easily ignore even them; gone would be the nights when he couldn't even turn his side unless helped .
It becomes a normal action for him then to leave this old collection of flesh and bones into an old house where he may or may not visit this person and would visit with flowers of the season one day to see him off when he/she dies.
When this heart becomes hard, it is not difficult to break ties with any relation and just continue with the busy life; nights and days; who cares to ask how someone is and what one needs.
It is the same rigidity which causes one to show ruthlessness to one's own Creator as well and pay no heed to His rights. Its then not difficult to forget about Return and accountabilty .
On a broad scale it is this hard corner of the heart which makes it easy for someone to redicuule a fellow human being; be it one's own neighbour, or a person from some other community, class or country; be it a free man or a prisoner;
if one does not care then he really DOES NOT CARE!
Its high time to ponder what brings this hardness to hearts. We must look at our next generation. How are they growing. What are they receiving from their surroundings. Is the tender cardiac muscle becoming firm gradually? What would they pass on to their fellows. Its time to check that selfishness does not find its way to their inner beings. "I don't care" which is heard from every other child and is much in fashion today,taken as a slogan of a teenager, needs to be discouraged. Otherwise soon we will find another collection of stones without warmth of love and care around us; when time comes, torturing his/her own fellow human beings without even a shadow of guilt or shame, as soldiers, rulers or just civilians. They will act the same wherever they go, whatever they become, 'cause there will be no LOVE!
The money, the material and fame will be what they look for and live for; feeling self sufficient just with those; needing/spreading no warmth of TLC(tender loving care. "A person gives away what he/she receives as a child" is a general rule,with few exceptions.
We find the description about hardness of hearts in surah Baqarah--II" Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed thereare stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of God. And God is not unaware of what you do." verse:74
