As we look
about ourselves and ponder over those around us, we realize that we are all
searching for perfection and happiness in a world where faithlessness and
callousness have overtaken the universe. We watch the pain and suffering of
people, take a moment to shake our heads in sadness, but then turn around with
carelessness and go about our own lives. After all, life goes on! How many times
have we heard that phrase?
The world was originally entrusted to us in the best form possible, the vast
lands, powerful mountains, flawless blue sky, above all, magnificent creatures,
but we turned it upside down in the worst possible shape and left it there in
the hope it would somehow restore itself as if by magic!
God’s wish is for an everlasting happiness for all yet by deviating from
perfection we continuously fill our lives with difficulties and anxieties. In
other words, we’ve sold our moral values at a discount price and instead
purchased immoralities at a high cost. And we wonder what has happened to our
sense of peace and security?
To improve our peace and security, we need:
1. To practice the principles of right and wrong,
2. To reach out and touch mankind with compassion, for compassion gives rise to
happiness. And perfection arises through happiness.
The above steps are not impossible because God has granted all of us abundant
talents and skills by which we can contribute to the society and make a positive
change in someone’s life, however small or big. Only if everyone takes the time
to do his or her share! The song ‘Reach Out And Touch (Somebody’s Hand)’ sums it
up nicely:
Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can
(Just try)
Take a little time out of your busy day
To give encouragement
To someone who's lost the way
The song goes on to say,
(Just try)
Try a little kindness you'll see
It's something that comes very naturally
We can change things if we start giving
So to melt away downheartedness or overcome hard circumstances of life, try
lifting up someone’s spirit, like Booker T. Washington said, "If you want to
lift yourself up, lift up someone else."
